Championing Sustainability with Purpose

At Vispring, handcraftsmanship and use of the finest natural materials come together to create a luxury, British-made product that is designed to stand the test of time. Sally Squire works as a consultant with the environmental team at Vispring to help drive sustainable improvement. A long-time partner, with a relationship that spans over two decades, and now Brand and Sustainability Consultant at Vispring, Sally’s journey reflects both personal interest and a deeper corporate transformation toward a more sustainable future.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship Meets a Future of Responsibility

Founded in 1901, Vispring has always stood for excellence, handcrafting luxury beds in Plymouth, Devon, with uncompromising attention to detail. Whilst its roots are proudly British, its reach is global—exporting 60% of its products across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

But the commitment doesn’t stop at quality. As Sally explains, “We’ve always used the finest natural materials, like our hand-teased Real Shetland wool. What we’re doing now is working to ensure our environmental responsibility matches the integrity of our craftsmanship.”

Leading the Charge: Measuring to Improve

Sustainability is no longer a choice—it’s a necessity. Recognising this, Sally has worked with Vispring’s environmental team to take measurable steps to reduce emissions. By implementingnotch carbon accounting software, the company now tracks its emissions with precision. This tool supports both internal accountability and award applications.

Sally says: “The data and support from Notch helps us to make the business case for real changes, from reducing waste to identifying high-emission areas in our supply chain.”

Walking the Talk: Employee Engagement

A key challenge in any sustainability initiative is alignment across teams. For Vispring, it’s not just about software—it’s about people. The environmental team at Vispring works closely with departments, to ensure every team member understands how they contribute to the company’s environmental goals.

“We’re now focused on onboarding more staff to the notch platform and education,” she shares.

“We want to find creative ways to engage employees and celebrate wins, big and small.”

Embracing Imperfection, Driving Progress

Sustainability, as Sally reminds us, is a journey, not a checkbox. Vispring’s factory operations already emit relatively low direct emissions, but the real challenge lies in Scope 3 emissions—those that come from the supply chain and customer use.

And the journey doesn’t need to start big. “Switch off your computer. Turn off the lights. That’s how we began,” Sally advises other businesses starting their net zero path. “Don’t get overwhelmed. Just make a start.”

Looking Ahead: The Path to Net Zero

Vispring’s roadmap is clear: identify environmental impacts over which we have control or influence, and which contribute to our emissions, then collaborate on benchmarking and improving performance in areas that drive real positive change. Thanks to Vispring’s proactive internal teams—and the data now backing every decision—Vispring is well on its way to making meaningful change.

Because true luxury respects the planet.
