Net Zero International is a Net Zero specialist consulting company who have been a delivery partner of notch carbon accounting software for the last three years. They work with SME customers to collect and input data and to develop a strategic carbon reduction plan within organisations to ensure they meet their Net Zero ambitions and become commercially stronger.

 

We spoke with David Hawes, CEO and co-founder of Net Zero International about how he uses notch and his customers’ reactions to the carbon accounting software.

Who are Net Zero International?

“We are a Net Zero consulting business, and we primarily offer what we call Carbon AAA to our customers. So that’s carbon accounting, carbon accreditation, and carbon advice.” 

How do you work with notch?

We work with the team at notch for our carbon accounting.  They are our partner of choice that we use with our customers for all of the carbon accounting elements of the business and the support that we offer. We’ve been working with notch since we started back in August 2021, so we’ve worked with the team for a long period of time, and we find them to be very adaptable and they ask for our suggestions and feedback from our customers as they are always looking to improve the product. The notch software is the best we’ve seen across the market. And honestly, we’ve looked at many other software providers across this time that we still find notch to be, we think, the best value and we definitely think from a usability perspective for the customers is the best usability platform. The insights and information that data is provided it is exceptional and we get great feedback from our customers.We get great support from the team, and we work together, in partnership, to try to improve the service we offer to our customers.We work with about 250 customers. They are an eclectic mix in terms of size and scale and across many industries. We work with a lot of construction businesses and have a partnership with the National Federation of Builders. We’re also delivery partners with Net Zero Nation, which is powered by notch. This is where lots of businesses in Scotland going through a Net Zero Accelerator programme, the smallest employing three people and the largest 25,000.  Again, I think that’s one of the benefits of working with the notch software is that it is adaptable to scale and industry.” 

What do you clients say about notch?

“Our clients love using the notch dashboard.  Their feedback reflects the following:

• Great usability – uploading the data is very straightforward. 
• Insight – our clients remark on the professional look and feel of the platform. They like that it can be shared and many use it on their company website and internally in employee communications. 
• Monthly uploads – uploading data monthly embeds the culture of carbon reduction within the organisation. I think if you are just reviewing the data once per year it becomes just a compliance exercise. If you upload and review data more regularly you are having conversations at the right levels which will result in better traction and therefore reduction. 
• Built in emissions factors – I think that’s another real benefit of notch is that all of the emissions factors are built into the software. Therefore our customers don’t have to worry about these being accurate and also they are country specific which is ideal for our international customers. 
• Customised fields – having this functionality means that you can add in specifically what companies need to measure. For example, for our Construction companies we can measure the amount of timber they are buying; a Printing company can measure their ink supply and the carbon emissions for each of these can be easily calculated. 
• Attractive price point – as well as being easy to use, the price point is great. I think the value is amazing. 

Compliant – whether you’re a large organisation and have to do an SECR report, businesses on tender frameworks, or having to complete PN06/21 notch can meet all requirements. We haven’t had one customer we’ve worked with that has come back to say our report hasn’t been compliant or been well received for any tender.” 

What do you think the future is for carbon accounting?

We really like the fact that notch is continually evolving, looking to improve, and adding new modules into the software all the time.
